The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) announced in Abuja that its new device checker policy aims to improve consumer safety and service quality. The policy, introduced by NCC chairman Oghenevwede Ohwovoriole, is designed to ensure that devices used on the network meet safety and performance standards.
The policy requires telecom operators to conduct regular checks on devices connected to their networks. This includes verifying that devices are not counterfeit and are functioning properly. The NCC stated that the initiative will help reduce the risk of network interference and improve the overall user experience.
The device checker policy follows a series of reports about substandard devices affecting network performance in Nigeria. The NCC has previously warned about the dangers of using unverified devices, which can lead to security risks and service disruptions. This new measure is part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to regulate the telecommunications sector and protect consumers.
