Nigeria’s ambassador to China, Lt Gen Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd), emphasized financial priorities during a roundtable discussion, focusing on cross-border payments, export finance, and long-term investment. The meeting, hosted by the Central Bank of Nigeria, aimed to strengthen economic ties between the two nations. Dambazau highlighted the need for reliable payment systems to facilitate trade, noting that improved financial infrastructure is crucial for boosting bilateral commerce. He also stressed the importance of export finance to support Nigerian businesses in accessing international markets. Long-term investment was identified as a key driver for sustainable economic growth. The discussion underscored the potential for enhanced collaboration in financial services and trade.
The roundtable followed recent diplomatic efforts to deepen economic relations between Nigeria and China. Both countries have shown interest in expanding trade and investment ties, particularly in sectors such as energy and infrastructure. Nigeria’s growing economy and strategic location in West Africa make it an attractive partner for Chinese investors. However, challenges such as regulatory hurdles and financial instability remain barriers to deeper integration. The meeting is part of ongoing negotiations to formalize agreements that could lead to increased trade volumes and joint ventures. As both nations seek to enhance economic cooperation, the focus on financial priorities reflects a strategic move toward more stable and transparent business environments.
