The Federal Government has launched a large-scale training initiative under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) program, enrolling 250,000 Nigerians in two weeks. The program, aimed at improving skills and employment opportunities, has seen a significant increase in applications, reaching 1.4 million within two weeks.

The training initiative focuses on practical skills in various sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, and information technology. Officials emphasized the program’s role in addressing youth unemployment and aligning education with market demands. The Federal Ministry of Education reported that the program has been expanded to include more online and hybrid learning options to accommodate participants across the country.

Meanwhile, political tensions continue as opposition figures criticize the government’s handling of public health and security issues. Presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has called on the Federal Government to provide answers on the use of force during protests and to address funding gaps for Ebola preparedness. He accused the administration of failing to account for N10 billion allocated for the disease’s prevention.

The TVET program has been part of a broader economic reform agenda, with officials highlighting its potential to boost productivity and reduce reliance on foreign labor. However, critics argue that the government must also address systemic issues such as healthcare access and public safety to gain broader public support.

The initiative reflects the government’s efforts to improve economic resilience, but it faces challenges in maintaining momentum amid ongoing political and social pressures.
