A Nigerian court has ruled in favor of Halkin E&P in a long-standing oilfield contract dispute. The decision, issued by the Federal High Court in Lagos, confirms that Halkin E&P is entitled to the disputed payments under the terms of its agreement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

The court found that the NNPC had failed to fulfill its contractual obligations, including delayed payments and non-compliance with agreed terms. Halkin E&P had previously filed a lawsuit seeking compensation for financial losses incurred due to the breach. The ruling orders the NNPC to pay the outstanding sum of $120 million within 30 days.

This case highlights ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, where contractual disputes between foreign firms and state-owned entities are common. The decision is expected to set a precedent for future negotiations and legal actions in the industry. Halkin E&P, a UK-based oil and gas company, has been operating in Nigeria since 2015. The ruling comes amid efforts by the Nigerian government to improve transparency and accountability in the energy sector.
