Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurated an ultra-modern teaching hospital and two schools in Maiduguri, Borno State, emphasizing the importance of healthcare and education for regional development. The facility, named Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital (KIUTH), is designed to provide specialized tertiary healthcare within the state, reducing the need for residents to travel outside for treatment. Shettima described the project as a critical step in Borno’s recovery, focusing on long-term institutional development.
The inauguration took place during a period of heightened political activity, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 presidential campaign launch in Kaduna. President Bola Tinubu and Shettima attended the event, signaling continued collaboration within the ruling party. However, tensions emerged when APC North-East Chairman Ahmed Suleiman Ganduje endorsed Tinubu without mentioning Shettima, sparking controversy among party stakeholders.
Shettima has also been involved in political maneuvering, recalling past support for former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar during his 2007 presidential bid. This historical context underscores Shettima’s role in shaping political alliances within the APC. His recent focus on infrastructure and social development reflects a broader strategy to balance political engagement with public service initiatives. The teaching hospital project aligns with his advocacy for improved quality of life for Nigerians, a theme central to President Tinubu’s reform agenda.
