Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned voters in Rivers State to avoid supporting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Peter Obi in the 2027 election. Wike described the three candidates as "political gamblers" without a clear vision or proven track record of development.
Speaking during a Rainbow Coalition town hall meeting in Abua/Odual, Wike urged voters to reject the trio and instead support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election. He accused the candidates of playing "kalokalo," a Yoruba term meaning a game of chance or risk, with the voters’ political future.
Wike’s remarks come amid growing tensions over the allocation of N25 billion to Benue State. He criticized the governor and his allies for what he called a "plot" that has sparked political unrest. The minister also emphasized the need for leaders with a clear development agenda, rather than those who prioritize short-term gains.
This warning follows a broader campaign by Wike to position himself as a strong contender for the 2027 election. His comments reflect a growing divide in Nigerian politics, with critics accusing opposition figures of lacking the experience to lead the country. The 2027 election is seen as a key moment for political realignment, with several high-profile candidates vying for the presidency.
