Lagos State Deputy Governor Dr Kadri Hamzat has called on African governments and the private sector to boost investment in digital infrastructure. Speaking at a recent event, Hamzat emphasized the need for greater digital development to support economic growth and connectivity across the continent.
Hamzat highlighted that improved digital infrastructure is essential for enhancing productivity, enabling innovation, and bridging the digital divide. He noted that many African countries still lack the necessary infrastructure to support widespread internet access and digital services.
The call comes as several African nations continue to expand their digital initiatives. Nigeria, where Hamzat serves as deputy governor, has been investing in broadband expansion and data centers. However, experts argue that more public and private funding is needed to meet the growing demand for digital services.
Digital infrastructure remains a key challenge for many African countries. While some regions have made progress, others still struggle with limited internet access and outdated technology. Hamzat’s remarks reflect a growing recognition of the importance of digital transformation for economic development.
The push for better digital infrastructure aligns with broader efforts to modernize African economies. International organizations and private investors have also been encouraging greater investment in the sector. As more countries prioritize digital growth, the need for sustained funding and collaboration becomes increasingly urgent.
