The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially appointed Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, as campaign coordinators for the 2027 presidential elections. The decision was announced as part of the ruling party’s revised campaign council list, published in Abuja. Wike, who oversees federal capital affairs, will focus on mobilizing support in the FCT, while Adeleke will lead efforts in Osun State.
The appointments come amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 elections. Wike has emphasized the importance of infrastructure development and community engagement in bolstering President Bola Tinubu’s re-election prospects. He has also been involved in public disputes, including a challenge against Rotimi Amaechi over alleged financial mismanagement in a fumigation project.
Wike’s role extends beyond campaign coordination. He has faced criticism from labor groups over the ongoing teachers’ strike in the FCT. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has accused him of downplaying the strike, which it claims is driven by unresolved grievances rather than political motives.
This move by the APC reflects a strategic effort to consolidate support across key regions. Wike’s involvement in a coalition with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to promote Tinubu’s re-election further underscores the political alliances shaping the upcoming election landscape. The 2027 elections are expected to be a pivotal moment in Nigerian politics, with multiple parties vying for influence.
