President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja on Friday for a two-state campaign visit to Akwa Ibom and Rivers, according to official reports. The trip includes attendance at All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rallies and the inauguration of projects by Governor Eno Deji Elumoye.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the APC of restricting democratic activities, citing denial of hotel access for meetings in Abuja. The NDC posted the claim on its X platform, alleging that APC is hindering opposition efforts.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has also criticized the APC, linking recent judicial actions to an attempt to weaken opposition. A Federal High Court ruling in Abuja, delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, dismissed the leadership of Senator David Mark and invalidated former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential candidacy.
The ADC described the court decision as a strategy to undermine opposition and limit political competition. The ruling has sparked tensions between ruling and opposition parties, with claims of political maneuvering.
The APC has faced increasing pressure as opposition parties accuse it of using legal and administrative measures to control political space. The recent court judgment and hotel access issues highlight ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s political landscape.
The situation reflects broader concerns about the balance of power and the conduct of political campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections. As tensions rise, the political environment remains under scrutiny.
