President Bola Tinubu has received formal endorsement from the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a potential second term in office, with the party promising a N20 million prize for the local government with the highest voter registration. The endorsement was announced at a stakeholders’ forum held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. The move comes as Tinubu prepares for his 2027 presidential campaign, marking a significant step in his political strategy.

The Lagos APC endorsement follows Tinubu’s recent return to Abuja after his Umrah pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, where he engaged with religious and political figures. His campaign team is now set to lead efforts in Rivers State, aiming to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 elections. The N20 million incentive is intended to encourage local governments to improve voter registration, a key indicator of electoral participation.

Tinubu’s campaign has also faced scrutiny over comments from his aide, Phrank Shaibu, which were criticized by the Alsunnah Islamic Redemption Network for undermining Islamic spiritual values. The group accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s political camp of insensitivity, highlighting tensions between Tinubu’s administration and opposition figures.

In addition, Tinubu has been urged by the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria to address pharmaceutical insecurity, which the group has linked to national security threats. The society warned that the diversion of controlled medicines like tramadol fuels terrorism and violent crimes, emphasizing the need for urgent policy intervention.

Tinubu’s political journey has been marked by strategic alliances and public engagements, including his 2014 visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he outlined plans for development and governance. His 2027 campaign represents a continuation of these efforts, as he seeks to maintain his position as a leading political figure in Nigeria.
