The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched new campaign councils in Akwa Ibom, Osun, and Zamfara states to prepare for the 2027 general elections. In Akwa Ibom, the APC announced the formation of a state campaign council to coordinate political activities ahead of the elections. Similarly, in Osun, the party has replaced its previous leadership after a crisis involving Governor Ademola Adeleke. In Zamfara, Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura won the APC senatorial primary, securing his place on the party's ticket.
The move comes amid growing internal tensions within the APC. The party's leadership has faced criticism over alleged extravagance by officials during a time of economic hardship. Political economist Prof. Pat Utomi accused the APC of contradicting its public stance on poverty by showcasing luxury vehicles and lavish travel. Meanwhile, the party has also dealt with defections, as Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former PDP vice presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa joined the APC.
The APC's 2027 campaign efforts are part of a broader strategy to consolidate its political base ahead of the elections. The party has been working to address internal divisions and strengthen its organizational structure. The formation of new campaign councils is seen as an attempt to improve coordination and public engagement. As the 2027 elections approach, the APC's actions will be closely watched by political analysts and voters across Nigeria.
