The Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) has launched the DAWN initiative, a program designed to support and scale women-led businesses across the country. The program offers a range of financial services, including loans, grants, and advisory support, aimed at addressing the unique challenges faced by female entrepreneurs.

DAWN is part of the DBN’s broader strategy to promote economic inclusion and diversify the Nigerian economy. The initiative targets women who run small and medium-sized enterprises, providing them with access to capital and business development resources. According to the DBN, the program will initially focus on key sectors such as agriculture, technology, and manufacturing, where women are increasingly making an impact.

The initiative follows a series of policy reforms aimed at improving the business environment for women in Nigeria. In recent years, the government and private sector have worked together to address gender disparities in entrepreneurship. DAWN is expected to provide over 5,000 women with financial support within the first year of its launch, with a total investment of 500 million naira.

The program also includes mentorship and training components, designed to build the capacity of women entrepreneurs. These elements are crucial in helping them navigate the complexities of business management and market competition. The DBN has partnered with local and international organizations to ensure the program’s effectiveness and sustainability.

The launch of DAWN reflects a growing recognition of the role women play in Nigeria’s economic growth. By providing targeted support, the initiative aims to create a more equitable business landscape and foster long-term economic development.
