The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that its 2027 presidential campaign will prioritize issue-based messaging over personal politics. Dr Betta Edu, Director of Women Mobilisation for the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), stated that the campaign will centre on policy platforms and public concerns rather than individual candidates. This shift comes as the party prepares for its next major electoral contest.

The decision follows internal discussions within the APC leadership, which has been working to align its messaging with broader public interests. The PCC, responsible for organizing the campaign, emphasized that the focus will be on addressing key national challenges such as economic recovery, infrastructure development, and healthcare reform. The strategy aims to appeal to a wider electorate by highlighting concrete policy proposals.

This approach contrasts with previous campaigns, which were often marked by high-profile endorsements and personal narratives. The APC’s move reflects a growing trend among Nigerian political parties to emphasize policy over personality in an effort to build broader public support. The 2027 election is expected to be a significant test for the party, as it seeks to maintain its dominance in the political landscape.

The APC has also been navigating internal and external challenges, including the recent closure of its national secretariat in Abuja in tribute to former President Muhammadu Buhari. The party’s leadership has been working to balance mourning with campaign preparations, ensuring that the 2027 election remains a central focus. As the campaign approaches, the emphasis on issue-based messaging is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the party’s position ahead of the polls.
