The Nigerian federal government has announced a major initiative to train 80,000 young Nigerians in technical skills. The program, led by the IDEAS Project, aims to enhance youth employment opportunities through vocational training. The National Coordinator, Mrs. Blessing Ogwu, revealed the plan during a press briefing in Abuja.
The training will focus on areas such as digital literacy, agriculture, and engineering. The program is part of a broader strategy to reduce unemployment among the youth. According to government officials, the initiative will be implemented over the next two years.
This initiative follows recent efforts by the Nigerian government to address youth unemployment. In 2023, the government launched a similar program targeting 50,000 young people. The current expansion reflects growing recognition of the need for skilled labor in the country’s economy. The program also includes partnerships with private sector organizations to ensure practical training and job placement.
