Governor Dr. Peter Mbah of Enugu State has been urged by local leaders to intervene before the execution of citizen Mr. Ifeanyi Ekoh. The appeal comes from the people of Ihe Autonomous Community in Awgu local government area. They have called on the governor to act swiftly to save Ekoh from the gallows.
The community has also requested that Mbah coordinate with the governor of Ebonyi State, Mr. Francis Okoye, to ensure Ekoh’s case is reviewed. The appeal highlights concerns over the fairness of the legal process and the potential impact on public trust.
This is not the first time Mbah has faced pressure over judicial matters. In May 2026, his aide responded to an attack on NDC supporters, emphasizing the need for security and stability. Recently, he praised Powell Homes MD as a model for youth entrepreneurship, showcasing efforts to support local business development.
The current situation has raised questions about the balance between law enforcement and human rights. While the legal system operates under established procedures, the community’s plea reflects growing public scrutiny. The governor’s response could set a precedent for how executive power interacts with judicial decisions in the state.
The case of Ekoh underscores the ongoing challenges in ensuring fair legal processes and the role of local leaders in advocating for citizens. As the governor considers the appeal, the situation remains under close watch by both local and national observers.
