President Bola Tinubu has set a target of 2.3 million votes for his campaign in Rivers State ahead of the January 16 election. The directive came from Sen. Abdulaziz Yari, Director General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council. Yari made the announcement during a campaign event in the state. Tinubu’s campaign team is focusing on mobilizing support in Rivers, where he previously received strong backing. The target reflects the state’s significance in the electoral strategy.
Tinubu has also addressed the economic challenges facing the nation, requesting the Senate’s approval for $20.52 billion in external loans. The request was part of a broader effort to address financial shortfalls. During a speech in Akwa Ibom, Tinubu acknowledged the need for improved infrastructure and economic reforms. He emphasized the importance of leadership in driving progress.
In a separate development, Tinubu accused Atiku Abubakar of contributing to the country’s current economic crisis. He claimed that past leaders, including Atiku, were responsible for the challenges he is now addressing. This statement comes amid political tensions ahead of the upcoming election. Meanwhile, opposition figures like Peter Obi have challenged Tinubu to account for alleged savings from the removal of fuel subsidies and significant borrowings.
The political landscape remains highly competitive, with multiple candidates vying for public support. Tinubu’s campaign continues to focus on economic recovery and infrastructure development. His recent statements highlight both his strategic goals and the ongoing political dynamics shaping the election.
