The Nigerian Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, announced the release of 98 power equipment containers that had been stranded for two decades. The containers, cleared from three terminals in Lagos, include 44 from the ENL Terminal, 54 from the APMT and Sun & Moon Terminals.
The release comes as part of ongoing efforts to restore power supply in four states affected by outages, including Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory. Tegbe stated that his team is working with electricity sector operators to address disruptions in generation and transmission. The freed equipment is expected to support infrastructure upgrades and improve reliability in the region.
The containers, which had been stored for over two decades, were identified as obsolete or surplus. Their clearance follows a review of inventory and prioritization of modernization projects. The move highlights the government’s focus on addressing long-standing infrastructure challenges in the power sector. The freed equipment will be distributed to relevant agencies for maintenance and operational use.
