The All Progressives Congress (APC) has launched a grassroots campaign in Delta State ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party has mobilized 250 support groups to strengthen its presence at the local level. This initiative comes as the party seeks to consolidate its base and increase voter engagement in key constituencies.
The APC’s strategy includes organizing town hall meetings, community outreach programs, and voter registration drives. These efforts are part of a broader plan to ensure the party remains competitive in the upcoming elections. The move follows recent internal challenges, including defections of members to rival parties and legal disputes over primary elections.
Political analysts note that the APC faces growing competition from other parties, particularly in states like Zamfara and Kwara, where members have defected to the People's Democratic Party (PDP). In Zamfara, eight lawmakers have resigned from the APC, raising concerns about the party’s stability. In Kwara, over 3,000 APC members have defected to the PDP, signaling a shift in political loyalty.
Additionally, the APC has faced scrutiny over remarks made by its Edo state chairman, who was criticized for a controversial comment. The Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA) has called for an investigation into the remarks, highlighting ongoing tensions within the party.
Despite these challenges, the APC remains focused on its electoral goals. The party’s national leadership has emphasized the importance of unity and grassroots mobilization in securing victory in the 2027 elections. The campaign in Delta State is seen as a critical step in rebuilding the party’s strength ahead of the national vote.
