Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has called on President Tinubu to revive oil exploration in the state, emphasizing its potential to boost the economy. Zulum, who also chairs the North-East Governors’ Forum, highlighted the need for renewed investment in the energy sector during a recent meeting.

The governor commended the federal government’s $1 billion social protection program, which aims to alleviate poverty in the region. However, he stressed that economic recovery also requires strategic investments in natural resources. Zulum pointed to the state’s oil reserves as a key asset that could drive development if properly harnessed.

Oil exploration in Borno has been stalled for years due to security challenges and regulatory hurdles. Despite this, the state remains a significant player in Nigeria’s oil sector, with several active fields. Zulum’s appeal comes amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the northern region, which has faced prolonged instability.

The call for renewed exploration aligns with broader discussions on energy policy in Nigeria. While the federal government has shown interest in revitalizing the sector, implementation has been slow. Zulum’s intervention underscores the growing pressure on leaders to address economic stagnation through resource-based strategies.
