The Nigerian government has warned oil companies of potential license revocation for failing to develop dormant oil blocks. The threat comes as part of broader efforts to boost investment in the country’s oil and gas sector.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, stated that licenses would be withdrawn from operators who have not made progress on their assigned blocks. This follows a government call for increased investment from international oil companies.

The move targets companies that have not met development deadlines, with the aim of improving production and resource utilization. Officials emphasized that the policy is part of a strategy to attract more foreign capital and enhance energy output.

This follows years of stalled projects and underutilized resources in Nigeria’s oil sector. The government has previously urged companies to accelerate exploration and production activities.

The policy reflects growing pressure on oil firms to contribute to national economic growth. With ongoing efforts to diversify the economy, the government is seeking greater control over its energy resources.
