Credicorp, a Nigerian financial institution, has recently disbursed over N53.5 billion in credit to 351,000 Nigerians. The initiative, led by the bank’s executive, Uzoma Nwagba, aims to stimulate economic activity and support small and medium enterprises across the country. The credit distribution covers various sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, and retail, with a focus on creating employment and boosting local production.

The loan amounts vary depending on the nature of the business and the scale of operations. Some recipients received up to N100 million, while others were granted smaller amounts to start or expand their ventures. The bank has emphasized that the credit is provided with flexible repayment terms to ensure accessibility for a wide range of borrowers.

This credit initiative follows a series of economic reforms aimed at improving financial inclusion and supporting the private sector. Credicorp has been actively involved in promoting financial services to underserved communities, particularly in rural areas where access to banking facilities is limited. The current credit disbursement is part of a broader strategy to enhance economic resilience and reduce dependency on external financial aid.

The government has welcomed the move, noting that such initiatives play a crucial role in driving national economic growth. The Nigerian Central Bank has also expressed support for the bank’s efforts, highlighting the importance of private sector participation in achieving macroeconomic stability. The credit distribution is expected to have a lasting impact on the local economy by fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
