Nigeria has launched the African Leadership Legacy Project, appointing Dakuku Peterside as its director. The initiative, announced by the African Union Secretariat (AUST), aims to foster leadership development and capacity building across the continent. Peterside, a seasoned Nigerian diplomat, brings over two decades of experience in international relations and governance.

The project will focus on creating platforms for African leaders to exchange ideas and implement sustainable development strategies. It will also emphasize youth engagement and digital transformation in leadership practices. Peterside will oversee the project’s implementation, working closely with regional bodies and international partners.

The African Leadership Legacy Project comes amid growing calls for greater continental cooperation. Recent efforts by Nigerian institutions, such as the Nigeria Customs Service, have highlighted the need for stronger trade integration and border security. These initiatives align with broader goals of enhancing African unity and economic resilience. The project is expected to begin operations in early 2027.
