The Nigerian government has finalized its 2026–2030 National Development Plan, setting a bold goal of achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2030. The plan, unveiled by the Federal Government, outlines key sectors for growth, including agriculture, manufacturing, and technology. It also emphasizes infrastructure development and financial sector reforms to attract foreign investment.

The plan was announced by the Minister of Planning, Doris Uzoka-Anite, who highlighted the need for structural transformation to diversify the economy away from oil dependence. According to the document, Nigeria aims to increase its GDP by 7% annually over the next five years. The government has also set targets for reducing unemployment and improving public services.

This development comes amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the economy after years of inflation and currency fluctuations. The 2026–2030 plan builds on previous economic strategies, including the 2023–2027 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework. It includes specific initiatives to boost digital infrastructure, enhance education, and promote small and medium enterprises. The plan also calls for greater transparency in public spending and improved governance.
