The Nigerian government has announced the launch of the HAULMACE 2026 initiative aimed at addressing inefficiencies in the country’s haulage sector through technological innovation and strategic partnerships. The program, set to begin in 2026, will focus on improving logistics infrastructure, reducing transportation costs, and enhancing the reliability of freight services across the nation.
The initiative is backed by a multi-agency collaboration involving the Ministry of Transportation, private sector stakeholders, and international development partners. Key objectives include the deployment of digital tracking systems, the promotion of electric and hybrid vehicles, and the establishment of standardized cargo handling protocols. According to officials, the project will also support small and medium transport operators through training and access to financing.
The HAULMACE 2026 plan follows years of public and private sector efforts to modernize Nigeria’s logistics sector, which has long been plagued by delays, high costs, and inadequate infrastructure. A 2023 report by the Nigerian Institute of Transport highlighted that inefficient haulage contributes to an estimated 15% loss in GDP annually. The new initiative is expected to reduce transit times by up to 30% and lower operational costs by 20% within the first five years of implementation.
Nigeria’s logistics sector has faced significant challenges due to outdated technology, poor road conditions, and limited coordination between government agencies and private operators. The HAULMACE 2026 initiative represents a coordinated effort to address these systemic issues and position the country as a regional logistics hub. The program will be implemented in phases, with the first phase focusing on pilot projects in Lagos, Kano, and Port Harcourt.
