Former President of the African Development Bank, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, has been appointed as Nigeria’s Global Ambassador for Insurance and Face of Insurance in the country, according to a statement released in Abuja. The announcement was made by Michael Olugbode, a prominent figure in the Nigerian insurance sector.

Adesina, who previously served as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and as a key leader in the AfDB, is now tasked with promoting public trust in the insurance industry. His role includes engaging with insurance operators and advocating for transparency and reliability in the sector. The appointment was announced during a press conference held in Abuja, where Olugbode emphasized the need for greater consumer confidence in insurance services.

This appointment comes as Nigeria continues to develop its financial services sector, with insurance playing a growing role in economic stability. Adesina’s background in public service and economic development is seen as a strategic move to enhance the credibility of the insurance industry. The initiative aims to align with global standards while addressing local challenges in the sector.

The Nigerian insurance market has seen increasing interest in recent years, driven by regulatory reforms and a push for financial inclusion. Adesina’s involvement is expected to contribute to these efforts by leveraging his influence and experience in economic policy. The appointment underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the financial sector through trusted leadership.
