The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) confirmed that two suspected Ebola Virus Disease cases identified in Yola, Adamawa State, have tested negative following two rounds of laboratory testing. The results were announced by Dr Jide Idris, NCDC Director-General, in a statement released on Saturday.
The two individuals were initially flagged as potential cases following reports of symptoms consistent with Ebola. However, after thorough testing, no evidence of the virus was found. The NCDC is collaborating with the Adamawa State government to investigate the reported cases and ensure public health measures remain in place.
This follows a recent evacuation of the first imported Ebola case to Switzerland, which occurred barely five days prior. The NCDC has emphasized that the confirmed case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remains the only confirmed infection in the country. The agency has also noted that six contacts of the confirmed case are set to leave a quarantine facility after completing a 21-day monitoring period without showing symptoms.
The recent identification of suspected cases in the North-East has raised concerns about the potential spread of the virus, but the negative test results provide temporary reassurance. The NCDC continues to monitor the situation closely and is working to prevent any further outbreaks.
