Parents of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members were abducted while traveling from Oyo State to their orientation camps. The abductors demanded a ransom of N1 billion. The victims’ families were given a 24-hour ultimatum to pay the ransom. The incident occurred in Imo State.
The police have been informed of the abduction. The Oyo State Government has condemned the act and assured families that efforts are ongoing to secure the members’ safe return. The Imo State Police Command has located the hideout where the suspected kidnappers are holding the victims. However, the camp is mined with improvised explosive devices.
This is the second known abduction involving NYSC members in the region. Previous incidents have raised concerns about the safety of participants during their travel to orientation camps. The police are working with drone technology to monitor the situation. The families remain in distress, awaiting a resolution.
