The Federal Government has announced the launch of a national agricultural mechanisation policy aimed at enhancing farming productivity. The policy is part of the broader implementation of the Kampala Agenda 2026-2035, which aligns with the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).
The policy outlines a strategic investment framework designed to increase the use of machinery in agriculture. It includes targeted funding for the purchase of farm equipment and the development of infrastructure to support mechanized farming. The government has also committed to training farmers in the operation and maintenance of agricultural machinery.
This initiative follows years of discussions on improving agricultural efficiency in the country. Previous reports highlighted the low levels of mechanization in Nigerian agriculture, which has contributed to low productivity and food insecurity. The new policy is expected to address these challenges by promoting modern farming techniques and reducing reliance on manual labor. The government has emphasized the need for collaboration between public and private sectors to ensure the success of the program.
