Nigerian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are leading global adoption of cryptocurrency, stablecoins, and cybersecurity technologies, according to a Mastercard report. The study, titled "Dreamonomics," highlights that Nigerian SMEs are among the top 18 markets in these digital financial services. Over a third of surveyed businesses in Nigeria use cryptocurrency for transactions, surpassing many other regions.

The report indicates that Nigerian SMEs are increasingly relying on digital tools to manage financial operations, with a notable preference for stablecoins to mitigate currency volatility. Cybersecurity measures are also gaining traction, with many businesses investing in digital protection to safeguard against fraud and data breaches.

This trend reflects broader digital transformation in Nigeria’s financial sector. The country has seen rapid growth in mobile money and fintech services, driven by a young, tech-savvy population and increasing internet penetration. The government has also supported digital innovation through regulatory reforms and infrastructure investments.

Nigeria’s position as a leader in digital finance adoption comes amid global efforts to promote financial inclusion and technological advancement. The report underscores the potential for Nigerian SMEs to influence global financial practices, while also highlighting the need for continued investment in digital literacy and security.
