The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced plans to integrate AI-enabled technology into its operations, aiming to improve efficiency and streamline processes for prospective corps members. The move comes as part of broader efforts to modernize administrative functions and enhance user experience during online registration. The Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, highlighted the initiative during a meeting with the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream One corps members.

Meanwhile, a separate investigation has been launched following the death of a corps member at the NYSC camp in Enugu. The Senate has ordered a probe into the incident, which has raised concerns about safety and oversight within the program. The deceased member was part of the 2026 cohort, and details of the circumstances surrounding the death remain under review. Authorities have not yet released further information on the cause of the incident.

The NYSC, a government-run program that places young graduates in service roles across the country, has faced scrutiny in recent years over administrative challenges and safety protocols. This incident marks the second probe into the organization in less than a year, following a previous inquiry into alleged misconduct during a training session. The integration of AI technology is seen as a step toward addressing some of these operational inefficiencies. However, the recent death has reignited calls for greater transparency and accountability within the program.
