Vice President Kashim Shettima has stated that Nigeria’s participation in the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly will be guided by the country’s national interest. Speaking shortly after arriving in New York to represent President Bola Tinubu, Shettima emphasized that Nigeria’s engagements will focus on issues that align with the nation’s strategic goals.
The UNGA81 session, held in New York, has seen Nigeria engage in discussions on global governance, development, and security. Shettima’s remarks come as Nigeria continues to assert its influence on international platforms, particularly in areas such as climate finance and public health.
Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen its global standing have also been recognized in other areas. A recent roundtable at the UN Headquarters commended the country’s progress in climate governance, primary healthcare, and basic education. These initiatives reflect Nigeria’s broader strategy to leverage international forums for national development.
