A military aircraft crashed near the Naval Base in Igbokoda, Ondo State, on Monday, killing 32 people. The plane, an ATR-42, was en route from Benin to Lagos when it disappeared from radar. The wreckage was found in a swamp close to the base.
The Nigerian Air Force confirmed the crash, initially reported as a helicopter incident. The aircraft, with tail number NGR 931, was on a routine mission. The Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, stated the crash occurred in Ilaje Local Government Area. Family members of military personnel and crew were among the victims.
This is the second such incident in the region this year. The NAF has launched a search-and-rescue operation, though no survivors have been reported.
