Managing Director of the South East Development Commission (SEDC), Mark Okoye, outlined the Commission’s vision to position the South-East as Africa’s preferred investment destination by 2035. Okoye made the announcement during a speech at the 10th anniversary event of De Pinnacle International Social Club.
The SEDC aims to attract both local and international investors by highlighting the region’s economic potential and infrastructure development. Okoye emphasized the importance of Igbo businessmen investing within their home region to drive growth and create jobs. The Commission is working on policies and initiatives to improve business environments and support entrepreneurship.
The South-East region has seen increasing investment in recent years, with efforts focused on improving transportation, energy, and digital infrastructure. Okoye noted that the region’s strategic location and growing middle class make it an attractive market for investors. The SEDC is also promoting partnerships between local businesses and international firms to boost economic activity.
The push for investment comes as the region seeks to reduce reliance on external markets and foster sustainable development. Okoye stressed that the SEDC’s long-term goal is to create a competitive business environment that encourages innovation and economic diversification. The Commission plans to release a detailed roadmap in the coming months to guide investors and local businesses toward shared growth.
