A military plane crash in Ondo State killed 32 people, including family members and crew members, according to Nigerian authorities. The incident occurred on Monday, October 5, 2026, when an ATR-42 aircraft crashed into a swamp near the Naval Base at Igbokoda. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) confirmed the crash and identified the aircraft as part of a routine mission from Benin to Lagos.
The NAF initially reported the crash as involving a helicopter, but later clarified it was an ATR-42. The crash site is located in Ilaje Local Government Area. The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) have offered technical assistance to investigate the incident.
This is the second major aviation incident involving the NAF in Ondo State this year. The first occurred in March 2026, when a military plane crashed near the same area, killing 25 people. Both incidents have raised concerns about aviation safety in the region. The NAF has not yet released details about the cause of the crash or the condition of the wreckage. Investigations are ongoing.
