The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has trained 30 senior secondary students from Premiere Academy in Abuja as human rights defenders and peace ambassadors. The initiative, led by Funmi Ogundare, aims to equip young people with knowledge and tools to advocate for human rights and promote peace in their communities.
The training program included sessions on human rights principles, conflict resolution, and community engagement. Participants were encouraged to act as role models and to raise awareness about human rights issues among their peers and families. The NHRC emphasized the importance of involving youth in the promotion of social justice and peaceful coexistence.
This initiative follows a series of educational programs launched by the NHRC to engage young people in civic education. The organization has previously organized similar training sessions in other parts of Nigeria, focusing on empowering students to become active participants in societal development. The current program in Abuja is part of a broader strategy to build a generation of informed and responsible citizens.
